Supported Independent Living helps people with disabilities to live independently and become active members of their communities. It is one of the many home and living support funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). SIL support assists the participants in expanding their capabilities while minimizing reliance on support in the long run. The participants will be able to pursue their goals, improve their daily functional capacity and live as independently as possible with Supported Independent Living. This will lead to significant personal growth of the participants by helping them to develop meaningful connections with their family, friends, employers, educational institutions and the general community. Service providers play an important role in ensuring that the participants benefit from SIL support. Customized care plans and personalized approaches from the SIL service provider will help maximize the participant’s progress and independence. It is the responsibility of the service providers to understand the disability support needs of the participants and connect them with trained SIL support workers who will assist the participants with their daily living activities. It is also essential for all providers to stay within the funding limit that has been agreed upon by the participant when delivering support and services.
